Kimono with shorts for an unsuccessful shopping trip

Yesterday I wore my kimono with shorts and a vest top to go shopping for a new standing lamp and coffee table. In hindsight though, we shouldn’t have gone at the weekend because it was a bit crazy down there. At one point, we exited Mar Shopping to have a quick look at the Outlet (which is right next door) and realised we couldn’t get back in unless we queued for goodness knows how long! Plus, we couldn’t get any food because of the restrictions so we ended up driving the 45 minutes back home empty handed and hungry.

Luckily though, Michael is having a couple of weeks off so we can go back during the week and try and get what we were looking for. A month ago, we ordered a new leather sofa from Chateau D’Ax and were told it wouldn’t be delivered until October. But then last Thursday we received a phone call asking if they could deliver it on Friday!! This doesn’t normally happen lol. Needless to say, we were delighted!

It’s a beautiful corner sofa in a kind of hazelnut tan colour. I’ll show you what it looks like when we’ve got the coffee table and lamp some time this week (hopefully!). We’re thrilled with it, although it’s taking some time getting used to the firmness of it lol. You see, our last leather sofa was over 20 years old so it was well worn it and we’d sink into it. We loved it, but it was definitely time for a new one.

But back to my kimono with shorts. I don’t often share images of myself in shorts because I’m really not that fond of the way my legs look in them. I know, I’m silly. But we all have things about ourselves that we dislike. And mine is my legs, especially as I get older because they’re becoming slightly more lumpier and bumpier and the thread veins are becoming more pronounced! Not to mention the cellulite! But I won’t go there lol. It’s actually one of the reasons why I like this kimono with shorts combination—I feel like the kimono hides the backs of my legs perfectly lol. Sneaky, right?!

I’ve actually had these shorts for years. I bought them in Primark. I like that they have a bit of a higher waist although I would prefer them to be a little longer. But they do the job! I bought several of these vest (tank) tops last summer from Intimissimi—all the same, just in different colours, because I love the built-in bras. Intimissimi is my current favourite store for underwear. They do the best lace knickers, and great boxers for Michael too.

My handbag is classic Desigual and my sandals (which I wear almost ALL the time at the moment lol) were from the Timberland outlet store. I simply adore them. They’re super comfortable and they give me a little extra height!

Well, I guess that’s enough for today. I’m a busy bee at the moment. I’m trying to get as many pre-made book covers created as possible to sell on my other blog. If you’re an author, and you’re looking for an affordable book cover, please come and check out my pre-made book cover sales page (which I’m calling Covers by Suzy), and share it with your author pals! Thank you so much, my friends! <3

Your legs look good to me! But I am less than happy with my own and then people say they look fine, so what do I know? How great to have a new sofa. We’ve had our two (one each) since 2012 and I hate them. But changing them would be a major operation.

Oh no, why do you hate your sofas, Gail?! I can tell you that it’s definitely worth getting new ones lol!

I both loathe and love furniture shopping. The Hubs and I have such different taste. Fortunately, we’ve been able to meld our styles…

LOL I bet that’s a nightmare, Daenel! Michael and I haven’t always had the same tastes but for the past few years they seem to have meddled too.

I hate to shop for furniture, I can never find what I want. We also have a sofa corner and find it very cosy. Love your summery look there. I’ll bet my legs are worse then yours, lol.

Thanks Nancy! We all have things about ourselves that we hate, sometimes for no reason at all.

We ordered and paid for our two armchairs mid-January 2021, they finally arrived from Italy in the middle of May. But I must say, they I love them, it was worth the wait. I like your summer outfit Suzy, I personally don’t see any problems with your legs, however I am also quite conscious about how my legs look in shorts. Saying that, am glad that you are not afraid to show some skin even it is not perfect :). Nobody is

Thank you so much, Anna! I would have been happy to wait for my couch too, so I was thrilled when it arrived so early!

I love this combination and I should do this for the rest of the summer when I wear my shorter shorts: I don’t mind my legs but feel like I need to pull the shorts legs down sometimes and I also get burnt on the car seat! That teal/turquoise necklace is really striking with the black tank!

LOL Mireille, I have a towel on my car seat throughout the summer for this exact reason!! I hate it when the seat is hot and burns the back of my legs!

  7. You know I love this outfit, Suzy! That kimono is stunning and I am a big fan of shorts with a longer kimono on top. So sassy! And also sneaky, like you said. Haha. What a bummer about the failed shopping trip, but very cool that your couch has arrived way earlier than expected. That really doesn’t happen often!

It is disappointing when shopping trips turn out badly. As for shorts, I haven’t worn them in many years also because I don’t like how my legs (above the knee) look. But I do like your idea of wearing them with a kimono so maybe I’ll give that look a try.

I don’t like wearing shorts either because I’m not confident showing my legs. A kimono is a great solution though and yours is fabulous! I love how the blue really stands out and matches your jewellery. I hope your next shopping trip is more successful! Thanks for linking up!

  10. I think you look great in shorts! I love kimonos with anything; I think they are such useful items of clothing and this one goes very well with your shorts and tank top. What a shame you didn’t find the lamp and table you needed but I’m sure you will. I always look in charity shops first for things I need and if I can’t find what I want then I’ll look in shops or online. We should be celebrating the fact that we can go shopping again!

Hope you’re having a great week.

  11. You are lucky…never have I been able to wear a top with a built-in bra. It never fits.
Anyway, I have been looking and reading through all your blog posts, but my darling Suzy, I cannot comment on all of them. Neither do I have the time to go back to all of them to see what you replied.
It is very strange to be so busy as I am retired. Friends had told me the days would fill itself as by magic and they were right. My agena is full a week and a half in advance. Crazy. But nice.
