Link-Up: A blue outfit & a funny story to make you feel old

Before I tell you my funny story to make you feel old, let’s have a quick look at the blue outfit I’m wearing today. It’s nothing fancy, just the kind of thing you’ll find me wearing on a day-to-day basis while I’m working at home or popping to the shops. It’s a plain outfit, with the addition of some much needed animal print! The scarf takes the blue outfit up a notch, making it much less boring than it actually is.

I bought these bootcut jeans a few weeks ago from C&A and I must admit, I’m rather loving them. They’re a lovely thick denim and they sit just at the right point below my waist. The jumper is one of three the same (in different colours, of course—blue, black and pink) that I bought from the Benetton outlet store in Faro. And the boots are from Secret Sales. I tried a couple of handbags with this outfit but my favourite was my ‘manbag’ from Massimo Dutti which I’ve had years. I don’t care that it’s quite masculine, sometimes it just works perfectly, like today. But that’s enough of my boring blue outfit, here’s a funny story that happened recently…

Last week Michael and I popped into a local shop to buy a new Nespresso machine, because my old one is starting to do my head in (the button doesn’t always work and the capsules don’t fall out—I have to use some sort of implement to pry them out!). So there we were, browsing the machines when a young saleswoman approached us, letting us know that they were actually on special offer. It didn’t take us long to agree to purchase one, considering it was reduced by rather a lot!

Anyway, to get the deal, we had to give my details. The young Portuguese woman asked my name and I responded as I usually do, Suzy Turner—spelt like Tina Turner (because the Portuguese don’t usually understand what I mean when I say Turner). The girl looked a little baffled, so I typed in my name for her. Once this was all done, we headed over to another computer where she was met with a colleague who then proceeded to fill out another form. He asked my name, and I duly said, Suzy Turner, like Tina Turner. It was only then that the young saleswoman looked at me and admitted that she had no idea who Tina Turner was!!!!

I was so shocked. Then, to add insult to injury, the young man said the same thing, adding, “the name sounds vaguely familiar…” I could barely speak lol. Anyway, when my mouth did start working again, I think I yelled, “WHAT?!! B…but it’s Tina Turner? OMG I feel so old!” By this time, the two youngsters were laughing. We did have a giggle, the four of us. And when we left, she assured me that she was going to google Tina Turner to find out who she was. I still can’t believe it. This is the first time I’ve actually felt old LOL!!!

Has this kind of thing ever happened to you? I’d love to hear about it. But for now, I hope you’ll join the link-up, below, and add all your recent fab posts!

One of my favourites this week was Martina from Lady 50Plus who is introducing us to a German fashion label that we might not have heard of before. The colourful clothing from Stegmann Mode is simply divine, but it’s Martina’s beautiful bright smile in her photos that drew me in! Check out her post at Lady 50Plus.

  2. Suzy, I really like this all blue look with a bit of animal print! It’s cute and cozy and perfect for running around town. This is basically how I dress most days as well. Your Tina Turner story so cute! I felt really old when I watched Bridget Jones’s Baby in the scene where they don’t know who Ed Sheeran is. I laughed so hard when it was revealed that he was a super famous musician because I literally had no idea who he was at that point either. Now he is one of my favorite artists but I felt really old that I was so out of touch when I watched that film. Ha. Also, the time I used the phrase “like nails on a chalkboard” to my kids and they asked me what a chalkboard was!

OH LOL, Shelbee that’s hilarious! Both the Ed Sheeran story and the nails on a chalkboard!!! I adore Ed Sheeran too—one of my favourites is Thinking Out Loud—it gives me chills!

Your story is too funny, Suzy! I am older than you, so I get it. We think she is legendary – and she was! The outfit, I shared today is much like yours, something I wore to go grocery shopping. Ha!

  5. Hi Suzy, this blue is a great color on you and I love with the leopard scarf! Casual style amplified!

I was laughing reading the Tina Turner story! What, how could they not!? .. I have a simialr story where I told my hubby the next puppy we get I want to name it Siegfried! Why? Because when we have guests over I can then introduce “Siegfried and Roy! ( my hubby’s name) ” LOL! But then I told him, anybody under 40 may not get it!! HAHA!

LOL that’s brilliant, Jess!! What a great idea. But I agree that not many people under 40 will know who Siegfried & Roy are!! LOL!!

I don’t beleeeve it! Perhaps Tina wasn’t so big in Portugal? Mind you, I read that a club in NY turned Paul McCartney away because the young staff had never heard of him! Have a good weekend x

    • Suzy says:

LOL I know, right, Gail?!! I think Tina Turner was big just about everywhere, really. I think kids are just so focussed on listening to today’s music. It’s a shame really.

  7. I love your blue outfit. I often wear blue so this is right up my street. To your story, I can only think the young people you met haven’t been brought up with any musical influence. My kids have been surrounded by music/musicians all their lives as my hubby is a musician. They love the seventies music like the Eagles, Sleeley dan, the list goes on, not sure about Tina, who I love – they would probably laugh if I asked them. Have a fab weekend Suzy.

    • Suzy says:

Thanks Alison! I was the same, growing up…I listened to all my parents’ favourite music, so I grew up listening to Motown and all the great 60s and 70s hits. I guess today, kids aren’t that bothered about listening to their parents golden oldies lol!

Oh, I think I have a scarf just like yours! It definitely makes me feel better and more put together when I wear it. As for your story…one of my kids (years and years ago) asked me if I had crayons when I was their age! And, I remember almost fainting when my students didn’t/hadn’t even heard of the Beatles! By the end of the year, they not only knew the group, they knew songs and the names of each Beatle!

LOL what a great story, Marsha! It’s a bit like teenagers today not knowing what cassette tapes or video tapes are!!! Always makes me laugh!

Hahaha, oh isn’t that awful when that happens!! I never can believe I’m really that old. Well the good news was that you got a good discount on your coffee machine!

  10. Daenel T. says:

*feeling like the Crypt Keeper* I mean… Tina Turner, really? LOL I guess that’s about right… *deep heavy sigh*

Your casual outfits are pretty much what I wear for relaxing too. People say I’m dressed up, but I’m not. It’s literally jeans and a tee. LOL

  11. Jill says:

It is funny when the younger generation has no idea that we are referring to an icon. The leopard looks so good with the pretty blue!

  12. That blue outfit is lifted so much by the scarf and the bag. Well done Suzy, good styling.
As for not knowing Tina Turner… we don’t know all the stars the youngster know either and they would be equally flabbergasted about that I think.
In the Netherlands the musical Tina Turner is quite big at the moment, so I suppose that rekindles the Tina memory.
And Martina does look great in that outfit; I clicked through to her post.

  13. I can’t imagine not knowing who Tina Turner is…!

  14. Suzy says:

LOL I know, right Michele?!! It’s so weird LOL!!!
    Thanks for stopping by!
