Link-Up: a borrowed flat cap, tweed & Harry Potter

Who’d have thought that you could combine tweed, a flat cap and Harry Potter and look good? But where, one asks, is Harry Potter? It’s actually in the little backpack I’m using here. Not literally. I haven’t actually got a miniature Harry Potter in my bag lol. The bag was a gift from a friend a couple of years ago—a friend who knows all about my HP obsession! But this post isn’t exactly about that. It’s more about the flat cap.

A few weeks ago, I wore a fun outfit for the Fab40s theme, Borrowed from the Boys. I loved it so much that I said I would follow up with another. Well, here it is. This time, I’m borrowing Michael’s flat cap. I had fully intended to wear his braces again too, but every time I clipped them onto the back of my jeans, they kept popping off. I must’ve tried about six times and in the end, I gave up and chose to wear my tweed jacket instead. And I must say, this is quite possibly one of my favourite looks so far!

As for the flat caps, Michael is a little bit obsessed with them. He’s got quite a few and wears them all the time in the winter months—especially when he needs a haircut lol! I never really thought that they would suit me though. So, imagine my surprise when I tried this one on and found that it looks pretty good?! This particular one is from our last holiday to Ireland. He’s also got them from Scotland, England and possibly the US.

Now, before you mention the fact that skinny jeans are (apparently) passé, you should know that I don’t care. I have about ten pairs of them in my wardrobe and I am so not giving them up! I love wearing them in winter with my boots and I consider them to be a classic fashion item. So there.

These ankle boots are my latest purchase from Timberland and I was delighted when I found them, because they were exactly what I was looking for YAY! I’ve got several pairs of boots (and one pair of sandals) from Timberland because I adore them—they’re stylish and comfortable which is a real plus in my book! I found some options for you, below, if you’re interested!

As for my tweed jacket (bought from Sainsbury’s a year or two back), I wish I could get more wear out of it, because I love it. It’s such a feminine shape and the colour is so me. However, living here in Portugal, it’s too warm for much of the year to wear a coat. And when it is cold enough, this jacket isn’t quite warm enough for me! I can’t win, can I? So, I’ll wear it the few times I get the chance!

Anyway, that’s enough about my outfit. What have you been wearing this week? And what have you been up to? Please link up all your fab posts to the Neverending Style link-up below. See you soon!

One of my favourites last week was the lovely Alison from Midlife and Beyond, who pointed out a brilliant new site where you can get nearly new Cashmere products at a fraction of the price. I know I was intrigued so I wanted to share it with you, in case you missed it! Check out her post at Midlife and Beyond.

  1. Suzy, I freaking love this outfit on you so much! The flat cap looks fabulous and that tweed blazer really is something special. I wanted to borrow Jeff’s flat cap for our Borrowed from the Boys theme but he got rid of it…without telling me! I would have kept it for myself, darn it. Have a fabulous weekend!

Love the tweed jacket Suzy. I’m on the hunt for one myself. Have a lovely weekend xx

  3. I am loving the way crisp fall weather makes it time for layering and warm sweaters!

This style suits your gamine personality so well! The cap is very cute. Have a fab weekend x

Such a fabulous look. I love your attitude about skinny jeans. I still have a closet full of them myself, all in perfect condition, and I’m mad they are going out of style. I still see so many people wearing them though, so they are not completely out of style. I think manufacturers are just trying to force them out of style so we will all buy new jeans. And then in the next breath they will say “Save the planet!” It’s so aggravating.

I love this look, Suzy! The cap is fabulous on you. I’m with you on the skinny jeans. Well my skinny jeans are Jeggings. They look good, are comfortable, and will remain in my closet indefinitely.

The flat cap looks awesome on you and I love how you did your hair. That tweed jacket is a winner for sure. Thankfully here we usually get some decent fall weather that is cool enough for light jackets because I have so many! Love your Timberland boots too.

  8. I absolutely love this outfit! And the cap looks fabulous on you. I love the look of hats & the interest they add to an outfit, but they’ve always bugged me so I avoid them. However, I was just telling my husband last week that maybe I’d give them a try again.

  9. Love the tweed jacket, perfect with the cap. I’ve been looking for one to wear with my winter coats – I think they look so cool, as yours does on you. Maybe, I should be checking the menswear department. Thank you so much for the feature. Have a fab weekend, Suzy.

  10. That cap does look great on you! it’s so good you could get another wear from that blazer too, as it’s a wonderful piece and so nice with the jeans. I’m not giving up my skinny jeans either, they are staples in my wardrobe!

    Thanks for the link up!

Hope that you are having a great weekend 🙂 Thankfully the rain has stopped here!

Suzy, my husband loves these hats, too. But, I’ve never thought to try one on…guess what I’ll be doing tomorrow? I don’t believe you should give up those skinny jeans…not when you look that fabulous in them!

Why can’t I never ever find a good tweed jacket!! A one that looks exactly like the one you are wearing!! It’s perfect! And the hat is also the perfect item to wear with it. I’m getting a English country feel here. And you know I love that!

Well done, Suzy! What a wonderful discovery of how fabulous you look wearing a flat-cap. I, for one, can’t seem to get enough of the “borrowed from the guys” aesthetic this season and you’ve nailed it with this look.

Thanks so much, Jess! I don’t wear hats very often at all but I do like the way they look. I just don’t like the ‘hat hair’ afterwards lol!

Darn, I was hoping you DID have Harry Potter in your bag! lol! Very cute look and the hat makes it so cool. My husband wears one, too, and has tried to get me to wear it. After seeing it on you, maybe I will! Our weather here in Southern California gets chilly but mostly at night and in the morning, so I struggle, too, with all the heavy pieces. Love them all, though!

  20. I am def. feeling Harry Potter vibes from this outfit, even though I don’t know much about Harry Potter. That hat is so cute on you, it really goes great with your hair!

  21. This is a very good outfit. Casual but with a punch. And I agree about the skinny jeans. I still wear them, although I am slowly buying trousers which are skinny but not skinny/skinny like tights.
