Me? In light neutrals? Really? | Link-up

light neutrals

It’s not everyday that you’ll find me wearing light neutrals. In fact, it almost never happens. Most likely because light neutrals have a tendency to wash me out. If you put these beige jeans near my face you’d see exactly what I mean. Funnily enough, whites, creams and other light colours aren’t an issue (except for some wishy-washy pinks).

When I spotted a friend wearing these jeans a few months ago, I commented on how good they looked on her. She told me she’d got them in Stradivarius and then I promptly forgot about them… until she and I went shopping together last week. As soon as we entered the shop, she made a beeline for them. Luckily enough, they were still in stock, so I tried them on. I was surprised to see they looked pretty good on me actually.

My friend is 29 and looks good in pretty much anything! I must admit, it was quite an eye opener shopping with her. For the first time in my life, I had found someone who could out-shop me! We met at 10.30 and shopped until after 4pm. I haven’t done that in a while because my other friends can’t keep up! But we had so much fun. It was quite fascinating shopping with someone quite a bit younger than me because she tried everything that I would shy away from. She was also very honest, and said if something looked awful on me (like the 90s style bodycon dress in Bershka that I’d been eyeing up for months, purely because the colour combination of greens and browns were gorgeous).

I bought the jeans in the end, as well as this long brown cardigan from H&M. It might look familiar to you because I also bought the dark grey version a few weeks ago and wore it on the blog. What else did I buy? Oh yes, a fabulous pair of huge heart earrings. I’m wearing them in the YouTube video about my woman cave. You can find my YouTube channel here, if you fancy following me 😉

So, back to my light neutrals outfit. Even though I was completely out of my comfort zone when I put it together, I must admit to absolutely loving it! It all just worked really well together. The beige ‘slim fit mom jeans’ from Stradivarius (I’m wearing a size 40), the brown cardie from H&M (I bought XS), the new white tee from Massimo Dutti (S), the tan boots from Timberland, the cute brown handbag from a thrift shop last year, the long necklace (inherited) from Mi Moneda and the dangly earrings I bought a few years ago, but can’t remember where from. I think Laurie from Vanity and Me will be proud, because I consider her to be the Queen of light neutrals 🙂

Are you a fan of light neutrals? Or do you tend to shy away from them like I do? If so, what do you consider to be your neutrals? For instance, I love wearing greys and blacks…oh and animal print, I consider animal print to be neutrals too these days.

And now let’s get on with the Neverending Style Link-Up. I’m excited to see what you’ve all been up to this week! See you soon!

  1. Ooh I love this neutral look on you, Suzy. I think Laurie would definitely approve! I also struggle with light neutrals washing me out. My next Your Own Twist theme is Neutral November so I need to figure something out soon! I adore your cute handbag and those earrings are magnificent! Happy weekend, my friend.

Awww thanks Shelbee! Perhaps you should go all out with animal print for Neutral November? It might help prevent washing you out?
I hope you have a wonderful weekend too!
      Big hugs xx

I think it’s the perfect combination with the white tee. You look great!!

  3. Light neutrals aren’t my jam either…though I have relatively light coloring so these colors are always recommended to me. The brown cardigan look so good with your hair color! And I like the tan boots for that bookending look with your hair, too. I definitely find all-neutral outfits harder to get right…I think because you don’t have that COLOR that catches the eye, so you kind of notice everything else about the outfit. In this case, you nailed it. I think I’d still look washed out even in this outfit so a colorful scarf would get added so I don’t look like death! 🙂 But that’s one of the great things about a really strong neutral base outfit – you can do a lot with it to change up the look for your mood or your personal coloring or your preferences.

Sally, I couldn’t agree more! I did toy with the idea of wearing a colourful scarf but it just wan’t cold enough lol!
Thank you so much for your kind comments.
      Big hugs xx

  4. I like soft browns and grays but it depends a lot on the season. I think these look great on you!

Suzy, I think that this is a fabulous look on you and you wear it well. Light neutrals can be a little difficult to pull off in way that doesn’t seem like pieces just thrown together but no more so than any darker ones. Isn’t funny how we view ourselves so differently than others do? I’d like to take you up on the challenge of seeing who would outlast the other shopping. You and I would have a blast of a time.

Rena, that would be just be the best day EVER! I would love to do that. Such a shame we live so far away from each other!!
      Have a lovely weekend.

I didn’t used to do light neutrals but then I had a colour analysis in May and it turns out they’re supposed to suit me! This is a lovely look. Good buy with the trousers!

Isn’t it funny how we feel about neutrals like these, Gail! Thank you so much. Have a lovely weekend!

This is a departure from your usual style but it looks fantastic! I very rarely wear neutrals because they are generally not flattering for my skin tone but if the shades have some warmth to them I can just about get away with it. The cardigan looks lovely and soft. Hope you have a great weekend!

It really is, Emma! But thank you so much. I must admit, I can’t imagine you in neutrals like this either, but that’s because you’re the Queen of bright colours and prints!!
      Happy Weekend!

  9. Oh wow! I am very proud! And you look fabulous. I really like the jeans and Stradivarias I found out is great for shoes/boots. I have my eye on some there. Welcome to the neutrals gang! xx

    • Suzy says:

LOL thanks Laurie! I was totally thinking of you when I put this outfit on! Stradivarius has some really cool chunky boots in at the moment 🙂
      Big hugs xx

  10. This neutral look is so good on you – the jeans are a great buy and I like that cardigan with them, and of course those pretty statement earrings 🙂 I find it really hard to do head to toe neutrals, I prefer adding bits of colour to an outfit, although I do neutrals now and then!

    Thanks for the link up!

  11. Because of the white tee and the huge fabulous earrings, the look is very cool on you! Those trousers are great!

  12. You solved the light coloured outfit brilliantly. Now it suits you. I am also fan of the necklace and the earrings.
