Songful Style: These Boots Were Made for Walkin’

I’m so excited to be bringing you our very first Songful Style post! Hosted by myself, Shelbee (Shelbee on the Edge), Michelle (My Bijou Life), Marsha (Marsha in the Middle) and Anne (Spy Girl), Songful Style is a brand new collaboration featuring outfits inspired by songs. We’re also inviting anyone who would like to join us, to post their own outfits in the link-up below. It doesn’t matter from what angle the song inspires the outfit, it can be from the lyrics, the tune itself, the album cover, music video, etc. Our very first Songful Style song was chosen by me and it is These Boots Were Made for Walkin’ by Nancy Sinatra…

These Boots Were Made for Walkin’ Lyrics
You keep sayin’ you’ve got somethin’ for me
Somethin’ you call love but confess
You’ve been a’messin’ where you shouldn’t ‘ve been a’messin’
And now someone else is getting all your bestThese boots are made for walkin’
And that’s just what they’ll do
One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you
YaYou keep lyin’ when you oughta be truthin’
And you keep losing when you oughta not bet
You keep samin’ when you oughta be a’changin’
Now what’s right is right but you ain’t been right yetThese boots are made for walkin’
And that’s just what they’ll do
One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over youYou keep playin’ where you shouldn’t be playin’
And you keep thinkin’ that you’ll never get burnt (ha)
I just found me a brand new box of matches, yeah
And what he knows you ain’t had time to learn
These boots are made for walkin’
And that’s just what they’ll do
One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you

Are you ready, boots? Start walkin’

I’m not entirely sure why I chose this song, apart from the fact that I knew it would be an easy challenge to start with! I love the song though. It’s such fun, right? I remember loving Penny Lancaster’s dance with Ian on Strictly Come Dancing. Did you see it?

I had absolutely no idea what I was going to wear for this months’ Songful Style post, but when I bought these fabulous white boots from the Ecco outlet store a few weeks ago, they were perfect! There’s a bit of a funny story about the boots. I originally saw them a couple of months ago and they were on my mind ever since, so a few weeks ago, we went back to see if they were still available. They were. But when I tried them on, I was rather disappointed to discover that every pair had a strange dark blue stain on the white leather. The saleswoman promptly offered a hefty discount to which Michael tried to knock her down some more lol (he always does that!). In the end, we bought the boots for a much reduced price and figured we’d try to disguise the stain ourselves. We haven’t bought any white polish yet though. Fortunately, it’s not too noticeable in the photos. Aren’t they fabulous? They’ve got quite a distinct 60s vibe to them, don’t they? Which fits perfectly with my song choice.

When I watched Nancy Sinatra’s video on Youtube, I wanted to emulate her style with a little shift dress, and this one just seemed perfect. I’ve had it for years. In fact, I think it was one of the very first things I ever bought from Primark. Unfortunately, the day I decided to take the photos, it was raining (typical considering we haven’t had rain for ages!), so the shots are quite dark but I tried my best! Because it was raining and a little chilly, I wore my Samuel Tweed Serape which I bought over a year ago. It’s lovely and warm and quite dressy, which I love. I also added my white handbag from Parfois—bought a couple of years ago because I loved the shape and, more importantly, the thick strap. I do love a thick strap on a handbag because it makes it so much comfortable on the shoulder.

So, that’s it, my very first songful style interpretation. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I think I will probably have even more fun with the next song choice, because Shelbee has chosen it, and her song is the amazing Leather and Lace by Steve Nicks and Don Henley! I can’t wait to see how we all (and you too, if you join in the fun!) style that one. But for now, please join the link up with us, below…

What a great choice for our first Songful Style challenge. The white boots are fabulous! I always associate white boots with the 60s. I love them and am glad they are making a comeback. This is a beautiful outfit, Suzy.

What a wonderful way to start this!! I loved that song back when it first came out! I probably even watched Nancy Sinatra on the Ed Sullivan Show! You look fab in this outfit, Suzy, or should I say groovy? But, I am really jealous of the pool…in your backyard!!! I’m looking forward to next month, too. I should start planning now because I have absolutely no clue what I’m going to do!

Love the contrast the white boots and bag give to the outfit and the rain with you using an umbrella makes for some fun pictures!

  6. Suzy, these boots are so fabulous! And I absolutely love that you got them at a deep discount…making them even better! Such a great outfit, too. I like that you went with a shift dress as a nod to Nancy’s 1960s style. You are rocking this rainy day look! I am super excited for the next round, too! So many ideas are swimming around in my head.

  8. I think these boots are fabulous. I would buy them immediately. Love the outfit as well. It matches the boots.
Had to watch Nancy Sinatra. Great song and it is so long ago that I saw this. My goodness, she was playbacking and badly too. For the rest it was fun. I have to confess that I haven’t got the time to comment on all your posts. It has been a crazy week (said the pensionary). Hope you don’t mind.

I love everything about this — the new challenge, the song choice, and the outfit. Those boots are totally groovy!! I’m so fascinated by white boots. I want a pair but I’m not sure how they’ll fit into my wardrobe. I think a retro pair like yours would be perfect.

  10. Gail says:

You really knocked the ball out of the park with this one! I love your boots and the 60s vibe xx

  11. Emma Peach says:

That’s such a cool outfit Suzy! I love the white boots and bag. I make a beeline for Parfois when I’m in Madeira – they have some gorgeous bags, and they’re very affordable too. Thanks for linking up!
