Style Imitating Art: Scrappy Squares Stripey by Anne M Bray

This week’s Style Imitating Art inspiration piece is Scrappy Squares (Stripey) by Anne M Bray. Well, I chose Stripey, as we were given the choice of choosing any of Anne’s Scrappy Squares. Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar (14 Shades of Grey), Terri (Meadow Tree Style) and Shelbee (Shelbee on the Edge). Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of the hosts selects an inspiration image and they each post the image on their blogs. The following Monday they share their art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10pm Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog. The last SIA post was The Great Mystery of Water by Christi Belcourt. This week, the curator is Shelbee and you can read all about why she chose this piece of artwork by clicking right here.

I particularly enjoyed this week’s Style Imitating Art challenge because not only is Anne M Bray an amazing artist, but she is also a fellow blogger and friend; as well as being a fellow co-host for our monthly Songful Style challenge!

I had a long look at Anne’s Scrappy Squares and I finally settled on Stripey because, not only do I love stripes, but I recently bought this cute striped tee-shirt dress which would fit beautifully for this week’s theme. I bought it from H&M and featured it in my very first H&M YouTube Haul last week. By the way, if you’re not following me on YouTube, why not?! LOL just kidding…but I could use a few more followers, as I need at leat 100 to be able to have my own, unique URL. But enough of that. Let’s talk about my outfit choice for the Scrappy Squares challenge…

So, I new I wanted to wear the stripey dress, and I figured the best way to wear a tee-shirt dress is a simply as possible, with just a pair of sneakers and a denim jacket, as well as a statement necklace (which I forgot to take a close-up photo of DOH). Admittedly, if I owned a pink handbag, I would have used that. But, in actual fact, I rather like the look of the stripey handbag next to the stripey dress! It’s perhaps a little too stripey for some people but not for me lol! Bring on the stripes!

I must say I adore this dress. I don’t usually buy tee-shirt dresses, but this one is so soft and it just skims over the body. It’s super comfortable, I just had to keep it. It’s still available in H&M and it’s only $19.99. Bargain!

Clearly, I haven’t been particularly creative for this month’s SIA, so I’m excited to see what’s next in store. Maybe I could whip up a creative storm for that one. Let’s see! Bye for now!

What a great interpretation of one of Anne M. Bray’s scrappy squares. The jacket, necklace, and sneakers complement the striped maxi dress to create a fun, casual outfit for spring.

  3. Suzy, I love this simple casual look and I really love that this week’s SIA gave you the opportunity to showcase your adorable new dress! I always love tee shirt dresses with sneakers and denim jackets. It is so cute. It is one of Jeff’s favorite combinations, too! And I think all the stripes together is just the right amount for the Stripey Scrappy Square!

  4. This striped dress looks wonderful on you! Love the bits of stripes too in your pieces, bag, and shoes. Just the perfect piece adding the jean jacket. H&M has some great stuff. I bet that pink top will look fab but they should exchange it
    Have a great day!
