House build update, shift dress & link-up

I’ve had another busy week with my YouTube channel taking the front seat, and I’ve not been anywhere worthy of taking any photos…and I’ve certainly not worn anything worthy of taking pictures of either. In fact, for much of the week, I’ve been wearing sweatpants on account of my needing full-on comfort (that wonderful time of the month bleugh). So I thought I would share a short update on the house build, and a simple shift dress I wore several weeks ago when we had some friends over for dinner.

The house build is going, well, slowly. But we’re not worrying about it, because we have full faith in the building company we chose to the build the shell. They’re actually a Spanish firm, and when their guys are here, they tend to work pretty hard. So far we’ve been pretty impressed, with one exception when the cement was being poured! But I won’t bore you with the details. Currently, we have a very sturdy boundary wall done, as well as some of the house’s structural walls (with steel and cement). There’s a looooooong way to go, but we’re just happy that it’s finally on the move, after years of waiting for paperwork and bureaucracy! Here are some photos we’ve taken along the way. Most recent photos are towards the top. Look at all that steel!! This house is going to be SOLID lol.

What with the builders banging away, and the cement trucks coming and going, it’s been rather noisy here over the past week, so on the odd occasion, I could be found sitting in my garage with the doors closed as I recorded my voice-overs for my Think Like Queenie YouTube channel. I must’ve looked a bit odd but at least it was quiet in there!

Some of the videos I’ve released lately include: Twenty of the Most Fearless Women on TV, Why Wednesday Addams is the Ultimate Role Model, Unleashing the Magic of Bewitched, Reasons Why Social Media is Affecting Women’s Mental Health, How to be More Compassionate, Unlocking the Secret to Happiness, Eight Minute Meditation, Discovering the Intriguing World of The Queen’s Gambit and much more. As you can tell, I’ve been busy! If you know anyone who you think might like the channel (all about female empowerment, wellbeing, etc), I would be so grateful if you would share it with them.

And here’s the simple shift dress I wore for a dinner a few weeks ago. I bought the dress from Massimo Dutti years ago and I’ve probably only worn it a handful of times. The thing is, I feel like it adds a few kilos to my frame when I wear it, so I tend to avoid it. But then other times, I’ll put it on, and I feel pretty good in it. I blame the hormones! Generally speaking though, I do like to wear a shift dress.

I think it’s because the shift dress is straight up and down with very little shape, that it makes me look a bit bigger than I am. But I was obviously feeling okay about that when I wore it a few weeks ago. I teamed it with my faux leather leggings and a pair of ankle boots, both of which have now been moved into the ‘winter wardrobe’ because it’s really beginning to warm up down here in the Algarve. In fact, today I took down all my summer shoes and sandals in preparation. I must admit, I will miss all my boots. I love wearing my boots! Although when I was putting them away, I realised there were at least two pairs I haven’t even worn yet lol.

Anyhoo…it’s time for the Neverending Style link-up. Please link up all your posts, any subject welcome! And I’ll see you on Monday when I’ll be back for this month’s Songful Style post where we’ll be styling an outfit inspired by Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

How exciting to watch your house being built!
I know what you mean about the dress and some days it suits you and other days it doesn’t. I recently bought a pair of yellow jeans. I was fixated on the colour and not really what they look like. I wore them yesterday and felt they made me gain a stone! So disappointing because I tried them in several sizes. Have a great weekend x

That’s such a bummer, Gail! I had a pair of yellow jeans…skinny jeans. I loved them but they had no give in them at all, and when I put the slightest bit of weight on, I couldn’t walk in them. I had to give them away! Such a shame about yours though, having only just bought them!
Have a great weekend too 🙂

I’m living in sweatpants too and I do not have builiding work going on. You have a good excuse. Ive barely done any outfit picks recently for IG or YT. It’s a struggle and real 🙂

The houses are built so much stronger in Europe. Here it is like a competition how fast they can put up a house and it is usually studs and wood/drywall and the brick is often times just there for looks.

Gosh I know, right?! I’m always shocked how houses are built over there in the States! They seem so flimsy in comparison…but at least they get built so much quicker lol!
I hope you’re having a lovely weekend, Mireille.

  4. Oh wow, you sound busy, how exciting. I would love some home improvements here but wouldn’t know where to start. Love how you have styled your shift dress 🙂 Thanks so much for hosting the link up.

Thanks Claire! I’m very lucky to be married to an extremely handy man lol. His business is house renovations and he’s brilliant at it.

Thanks so much Nancy! How long did your house take to build? I’m thinking one and a half years, maybe? But the sooner the better lol

It is so exciting to have a house built. And it looks like yours is off to a wonderful start. Awesome! This is a very cool outfit, imho. But I understand what you mean about an article clothing making you feel like it adds pounds. When I have a piece that does this, I try adding a belt. It gives the outfit a more fitted appearance. The majority of the time, it fixes the issue.

Thanks Michelle! You know, I’ve never actually tried this dress with a belt. I will give it a try next winter!

I can’t wait to see this finished as I am horrible at envisioning things! I need to remember to check your blog because I’m still not getting any emails from you (unless you’re blocking me…insert side eye action here)! I think you look quite chic in your sheath dress! I just love your haircut! So fabulous!!!!

LOL I would never block you, Marsha LOL! I don’t understand why the emails still aren’t getting through though…so weird! I’m not sure what to suggest. I shall have a look at the sign up again and see if the problem is my end.
      Big hugs xx
