Welcome to December’s edition of Songful Style! Hosted by myself, Shelbee (Shelbee on the Edge), Marsha (Marsha in the Middle) and Michelle (Funky Fashion Style)—who we are so thrilled to have back with us again!—Songful Style is a collaboration featuring outfits inspired by songs. We’re also inviting anyone who would like to join us, to post their own outfits in the link-up below. It doesn’t matter from what angle the song inspires the outfit, it can be from the lyrics, the title, the tune itself, the album cover, music video, etc. Last month our song was Witch Doctor by Ross Bagdasarian and was chosen by Shelbee. This month, our Songful Style song was chosen by Marsha and is Here to Forever by Death Cab for Cutie (scroll down for lyrics).
Although I’d heard of Death Cab for Cutie, I had no idea who they were, or what kind of music they produced. I must admit to instantly liking the song though. As for styling an outfit inspired by Here to Forever though…hmm…it wasn’t easy. At first I thought I might just wear an all-white outfit because of the two people on the front cover of the album. But when I realised I only had white summer clothes, I had to re-think it.
What to do? What to do? I watched the video several more times before settling on denim. The main singer wore a denim shirt and one of the girls looked to be wearing denim on denim, so that’s what I did. I picked out my newest pair of jeans from Salsa, and grabbed my one and only denim shirt, which is really old from Primark. I really do need to get myself some decent shirts, don’t I?! To add a bit more interest, I threw on the oversized, sleeveless, red sweater that also came from Primark about a month ago. It was an absolute bargain, on offer for about 5 euros! The Desigual scarf, a Christmas gift from Michael, is the perfect shade of reddish-pink to match the sweater so they seemed meant to be worn together. You can’t see them, but I’m wearing a pair of red socks with white hearts on them as well. Also a Christmas gift from Michael!
Black shoes seemed to be the natural choice (because of the black on the sweater), so I chose my pointy sneakers from Ecco (which I adore because they’re just a bit different from the norm). Ideally, I would have preferred a black cross body bag but would you believe, I don’t really have one, except for my camera bag, but I didn’t want to wear that because it’s quite bulky. So, I opted for my trusty red handbag from Desigual which has appeared on the blog rather a lot recently! I finished the look with some blue earrings and a selection of silver rings. I styled my hair to the side to resemble the main singer’s look (lol) et voila…my interpretation of Here to Forever. Not too bad, eh?
I’m a little late with my post, because things were a bit hectic (for obvious reasons), over the past few days. And then, on top of it all—today is my birthday! Yes, 47 years young. That’s me. So this outfit is actually what I’m wearing today. We took the snaps just before we met up with some friends for lunch. I didn’t want to do anything fancy today, I just felt like having a vegan pizza at Pizza Hut so that’s exactly what we did. It was nice though…just a few friends and family members and a good old natter. I was thoroughly spoilt though…having received some wonderful gifts, for Christmas and for my birthday. Many of which you will see on the blog soon though!
But for now though, let’s get on with the Songful Style Link-Up. I hope you’ll add all your fab outfit posts! And don’t forget to check out my gorgeous co-hosts outfits over at Shelbee on the Edge, Marsha in the Middle and Funky Fashion Style. Oh, I almost forgot, the song inspiration for next month was chosen by Michelle and is Tell Me Baby by Red Hot Chili Peppers. That should be a fun one! See you next year!
LYRICS
In every movie I watch from the ’50s
There’s only one thought that swirls
Around my head now
And that’s that everyone there on the screen
Yeah, everyone there on the screen
Well, they’re all dead now
They’re all dead now
And it ain’t easy living above
And I can’t help but keep falling in love
With bones and ashes
With bones and ashes
And when the color is too bold and bright
I’m daydreaming in black and white
Until it passes
Until it passes
I wanna know the measure
From here to forever
And I wanna feel the pressure
Of God or whatever
Oh, these days it’s so hard to relax
You gotta hold a gun to my back
To make me smile
To make me smile
And the only way I seem to cope
Is by trying to hold onto hope
If just for a while
If just for a while
I wanna know the measure
From here to forever
And I wanna feel the pressure
Of God or whatever
Now it seems more than ever
There’s no hands on the levers
And I wanna feel the pressure
Of God or whatever
Only rollers keep rolling
While the searchers keep scrolling
I wanna know the measure
From here to forever
And I wanna feel the pressure
Of God or whatever
Now it seems more than ever
There’s no hands on the levers
And I wanna feel the pressure
Of God or whatever
Or whatever
First off, Happy Birthday! You nailed the Death Cab for Cutie vibe completely. If you shared the stage with the band you’d be right in place. I’m a big fan of denim and red.

Happy, happy birthday, my gorgeous friend! It was such fun chatting with you last week! I love this look! The red sleeveless sweater is perfect as well as the scarf! I had thought about doing denim on denim, but I never seem to be able to pull it off like you did! Still loving that short hair!

You did an excellent job, Suzy, love your outfit, the injection of red is invigorating. Anna
I really like the red and blue together and that knit and scarf do look like they were made for each other!
A belated happy birthday to you! 🙂
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and you have a happy new year!
The sweater, scarf, and bag look great together, and the denim-on-denim base is perfect for showing them off. Happy birthday!
I always enjoy reading how you come up with your looks. I haven’t done denim on denim but really like it like this with the vest.
