Style Imitating Art: Sunspots by Cuno Amiet

This week’s Style Imitating Art inspiration piece is Sunspots by Cuno Amiet and was chosen by Salazar. Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar (14 Shades of Grey), Terri (Meadow Tree Style) and Shelbee (Shelbee on the Edge). Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of the hosts selects an inspiration image and they each post the image on their blogs. The following Monday they share their art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10pm Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

For various reasons, I just haven’t been able to take part in many of the SIA challenges over the past few months. My last SIA post was Feeding the Light by Jerry Garcia. However, I was determined to create an outfit for this week’s Sunspots by Cuno Amiet challenge because the art work is right up my street—it’s a multitude of gorgeous shades of green. There are whites, yellows, hints of blue and red too, but me being me, wanted to focus on my favourite colour lol.

So, even though I wasn’t feeling so good (you can really see it in my eyes), I made an effort to get up and have a look through my wardrobe to see what I could find. My puffy eyes immediately settled on my favourite winter wide-legged trousers in emerald green velvet which I bought a few years ago from Promod. I added a sage green top from Primark, my white Ecco sneakers, my delicious dark green Teddy Blake handbag, a yellow scarf for that punch of colour and some stunning pieces of green jewellery that I recently inherited. I’ve neglected to take any decent photos of the jewellery because I was really starting to fail towards the end of this photo session. And I was baking hot in those trousers! But the bracelet is actually from Swarovski. I’m sure I’ll wear it again soon so I’ll take some proper pics then.

When I was putting the outfit together, and spotted this beautiful necklace, I knew I had to wear it. But did it really go with the sneakers? Perhaps you will think not, but I happen to love the two opposing styled together. To me, there’s nothing cooler than teaming two things together that you would never ordinarily pair. Sneakers with a tulle skirt or dress, for instance. And why not then, sneakers with a beautiful over the top necklace? I just love the juxtaposition of the two together! Would you dare to team a fancy piece of jewellery like this with sneakers? Or chunky boots, for example? I’d love to know your opinion.

And that’s it. My outfit for this week’s SIA, Sunspots by Cuno Amiet, challenge. I hope I’ll be able to take part in the next one too! Stay tuned!

  1. Suzy, this outfit is brilliant and it really picks up all of the gorgeous shades of green in the painting. Your bright yellow wrap really adds something extra special to this look, too. And you know I love a good unexpected pairing of two opposing things! Well done, my friend. I hope you are feeling better soon. Sending healing energy your way!

That scarf is like a ray of sunshine. I really like the column of green with your wide leg green pants. Such a pretty silhouette.
