From long hair to pixie cut…again! Link-up

I know, I know…I’m such a nutcase. I’ve gone from long hair to pixie cut…again! I never seem to be able to keep the same style for very long and so this time, I decided to have all my hair cut off for the third time. I think it’s the third time anyway, I’m losing count! The very first time I did it, was over ten years ago, when I decided to have a pixie cut around about the same time that I decided to stop dyeing my hair. Cutting it all off just made sense. I loved it short, and I even went crazy short nearly five years later. But after a while I was craving long hair so I let it grow out.

Don’t get me wrong, I love long hair. I also love short hair, and everything in between. Basically, I just like a change every once in a while, and going from long hair to pixie is certainly a change! This time, I spent a few days perusing Pinterest to find the look I wanted and found a few styles that I loved. My stylist, Tina, (from Short Cut in Carvoeiro, Portugal) who has been cutting my hair since my first pixie, loved the styles I chose (which is always a bonus) so we had fun getting down to business…by the way, you can find Short Cut on Instagram too.

I went for this particular look because there’s enough length on top and at the front to have a few different styles. I can have a parting on either side, or in the middle, or I can even wear hair clips or a hairband. It’s a style I can really play with and have fun with, which is important to me.

Another reason for the sudden, drastic haircut is the dreaded perimenopause. Not only am I having the odd hot flush (and there’s nothing worse than having hair down your neck for that!), but my hair has also started falling out—not in a crazy OMG I’m going bald sort of panicky way—but just small handfuls of it come away in the brush after I’ve washed it. And don’t even mention the drain…it’s like there’s a dead rat down there! So, a short style seemed the best way for me right now. Give me a few years though, and I’m sure I’ll go long again! Because I think we can have long hair at any age and look fabulous, regardless of what some people might say.

Do you like to change up your hairstyle every now and again? Or do you have one style that you love and stick to? I’d love to know? And have you ever gone from long hair to pixie cut? For now though, let’s get on with the link-up? I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ve all been up to this week! See you soon!

This is a great hairstyle – suits you and quite versatile! Mine doesn’t change hugely although every now and then I get worried that I’ve got a typical old lady highlighted bob, and have it cut a bit shorter! Have a good weekend x

  2. OMG, Suzy, you look amazing! What a fun cut on you. I have gone from long hair to short hair so many times I have lost count. Every time my hair would hit my shoulders, I would cut it off again. I hate the feeling of wet hair touching my skin! But I was determined to be that old hippie lady with long gray braids one day so I have learned to tolerate the wet hair and have managed to grow it as long as it has ever been. And I am very familiar with hair rats in the drain! Hahaha. The last time I went from long hair to a pixie cut was in 2015 and I remember the stylist asking me if my husband was okay with me cutting off all of my hair. I looked at her funny and asked if I had just stepped into 1915 instead of 2015 and told her to get cutting, the only opinion that matters about my hair is mine! Fun post! I hope you have an amazing weekend!

You look amazing! I love it that you can enjoy different styles! I haven’t had mine very long the least few years but I haven’t gone the pixie cut route either. I think hubby likes it the way I usually keep it so I only do a few changes when I get it cut.

Both look good on you! I have a appointment tomorrow. Need to have a hairstyle for without curls as they are almost gone, because of menopause……

  6. Such a cute haircut! I’m like you. I need change. Now I’m trying to grow it out. Again.

  7. I wish I could change my hairstyle now and again. You look good either way but I have such fine and thin hair, that there is not an awful lot I can do with it. I learned the hard way that I’d better keep it like this, a bob.
Count yourself lucky for having such good hair. It makes or breaks your look.
And I understand why you wanted to cut it this time. But like you, I love long hair.

I think the main determinant in cutting your hair or changing it is how YOU feel. I’ve never understood why women give so much weight to what their husbands or significant others will think when they want to make a change around something like hair. Anyhow – I too had that loss of hair when I hit a certain age, and I’ve cut my hair varying lengths. Texture combined with length play a huge role in upkeep so I’ve settled on a certain length.
I enjoyed this post. Stopping by from Is this Mutton.

  11. This is a fabulous look on you, Suzy! Although you look fabulous in long hair too. I pretty much stick with the one style that looks best with my curls – a layered cut that I do myself. I’ve tried growing my hair out to all one length and it’s just so heavy, and doesn’t look that great. My round face doesn’t look great with a pixie cut either, although I tried it many years ago.

Thanks Michelle! I used to find my hair really heavy too but I guess it’s not as bad as it used to be. Your hair looks great the length that it is though!
      Big hugs
