I’ve had this gorgeous black blouse for two years now—bought during our last pre-covid visit to the UK when we could actually go shopping. It was one of those last minute finds I stumbled across just before exiting TK Maxx (TJ Maxx in the US). I think I might have squealed, well, internally anyway. It’s made of the most gorgeous fabric that doesn’t crease and hangs beautifully. I snapped it up without even trying it on.
I’ve worn it on a few occasions—usually when going out to dinner with friends. Not that we’ve had much chance of that over the past two years. Last weekend, we went out twice! Twice! Talk about a treat. The first night we went into Carvoeiro (the small town where I grew up) to meet up with some dear friends who are over from the UK, and the second night we went to our wonderful American friends’ place for a bite to eat (which is actually the house where Michael grew up). Both evenings were absolute bliss. It’s so wonderful chilling out with good friends, isn’t it?
This is what I wore to visit our American friends—who, incidentally, had us in fits of hysterics the entire evening! They are such a hoot, that couple! Anyway, back to the outfit. As the weather is slowly starting to becoming more Autumnal now, I figured I’d wear something with a half sleeve, hence the black blouse. I also got the chance to wear my more wintery trousers (yay!). I love it when I start to re-introduce my winter clothing back to my wardrobe. I’ve always had a thing for wide-legged trousers so I love these, they’re lovely and thick and comfy and fit perfectly (which was a bit of a surprise considering I’m starting to gain a little around the middle—thanks hormones!).
As for my shoes, I’m still all about comfort, because my foot still hasn’t completely healed. It’s been months since I broke my little toe (three times in three weeks!), and I’m concerned it’s always going to hurt a little bit. I think I did more damage that initially thought, but, hey ho, not much I can do about it now. So, comfy shoes it is. But don’t get me wrong, just because I want comfy shoes, doesn’t mean I’ll give up the style! No way lol. Here, I’m wearing my black suede Skechers which I adore. I wear them so much at this time of year. My handbag was a last minute grab as we headed out the door. I’m quite pleased with it, actually. Ordinarily, I would have added something a bit more colourful but I like it!
Have you been out much lately? Are you braving the restaurants or just dining in with friends? If so, what have you been wearing now the weather is cooling down? Let me know by adding all your posts to the Neverending Style link-up, below! Ooh, almost forgot to mention…what do you think of my hair? Michael cut it for me, took off about two centimetres (which is exactly what I asked for, btw), and then I put in the heated rollers. It looked pretty good at first, but my hair is so heavy the curls drop pretty quickly. Any tips?
One of this week’s favourites is the amazing Debbie from Your Styled Story who has written a fabulous post entitled, Is Your Wardrobe Holding You Back From Being Your Best Self? It’s bloody brilliant and well worth a visit, so do check it out! When I read it, it made me want to go and have a rifle through my wardrobe and chuck out anything that isn’t worthy of me!
That is a gorgeous blouse! I’m glad you had such a fun time with your American friends. I’ve been shopping, going out to eat, traveling, leading as normal of a life as I’ve been allowed ever since the initial three month lockdown was over.
Thanks Amy! It’s great to hear you’re getting back to normal. It certainly feels good, doesn’t it?!

Love everything about your outfit! Send it my way lol! We’ve never been much for going out but the hubby and I have been trying to go on a date night once every month or so. Everything has been pretty normal here for quite a while. I love spending time with friends and we don’ t do it nearly enough. I have gotten tired of always hosting the family in law (which does not always help out with food) so we haven’t entertained since July 4th here but I had my brother and his little family here for almost a month in September so we really enjoyed that!

LOL thanks Mireille!
I envy you—my brother and sister live in the UK and we haven’t managed to see them for a few years! Luckily we have some wonderful friends though.

What a great find, Suzy. And especially because you recognized how perfect it was for you the minute you saw it. We’ve been getting out and about quite a bit but still wearing masks as it’s required in our area. We were wearing them voluntarily even before they reinstated the mandates anyway. Better safe than sorry, right?

Absolutely Rena. We’re wearing masks whenever we go out too. It just feels too soon to stop. Apparently it’s no longer required in the UK but cases are seriously increasing! They shouldn’t have stopped it so soon. Luckily, thing aren’t too bad here in Portugal though.

That shirt is lovely on you and I really like the pants too! 🙂 Sorry to hear you hurty your foot – comfortable shoes are definitely the way to go!
After the first lockdown here in 2002 things reopened quite quickly – although we didn’t go out a lot before the pandemic so we have been mostly not eating in restaurants, it has been good to go out more often, especially as we have had covid 0 for so long there’s really been no reason not to, haha! We just tend to stay away from anywhere too crowded – so dinner or drinks at friends places and birthday parties in homes or outdoors, that kind of thing. We don’t miss restaurants too much as we do takeaway when we don’t want to cook! 🙂
Hope you are having a good weekend 🙂
Thanks Mica! I totally agree about staying away from places that are too busy. We actually went shopping a couple of weeks ago and it was the first weekend that there was no longer a limit to the number of people allowed in each shop and it was absolutely heaving with people! I didn’t like it…not one bit!
Hope you have a lovely week.

Such a chic look, I love the black top against the gray trousers and how you tucked in the top to accentuate your figure against the wide legged trousers. Lovely!

That’s a great blouse – love the black colour which suits you. Yes we’re beginning to entertain friends and go out to their places, but we’re not going to restaurants as we have high numbers of cases in the UK so we’re avoiding indoor settings. But yes, it is so nice to see friends. Thanks for hosting this 🙂
Thanks Penny! I’ve been hearing that cases are increasingly drastically in the UK. They really shouldn’t have stopped people wearing masks in public so soon. We’re driving over in December, I just hope things aren’t so bad then!!

Ooh I love this outfit, Suzy! The darker colors are so chic and sassy and the addition of your trainers keeps the whole look so modern and cool, too. I have been out 3 times in the past week which is so crazy for me! But I am feeling energized by socialization and so I just keep rolling with it!
Shelbee
Thanks Shelbee! I’m happy to hear that socialising is energizing you! It does feel good to get out and about, doesn’t it?

A very chill look. I’m glad you had a good time with your friends, that is so energising isn’t it. Do I understand it correctly that you broke your toe 3 times?? Ah, that must be so painful! Enjoy your weekend!
Thanks Nancy! Yes, I banged my little toe and broke it the first week, then I re-broke it the second week (whacked it on a chair) and then banged it on the third week AGAIN! It was excruciating. I actually cried!!!

I love a nice black blouse. In fact, I have a post coming out with a new pre-owned one! Lol! It is fun to get together with friends again! I hate to tell you, but when I broke my little toe, it bothered me for a couple of years. But over time, it healed. Sorry! Have a lovely week, Suzy.
xx Darlene
Oh crikey….a couple of years?! Yikes! I’d better get comfy in my trainers then!!
I shall keep an eye out for your post, Darlene!

You hair looks great! No tips for from this British Short-hair, except drying your hair upside down! Love the black blouse, you look good in black, must be a Winter x
Thanks Gail! I think you’re probably right about me being a Winter. I’ve always gravitated towards black, and if I don’t know what to wear, it’s what I will usually end up in!
