Black chiffon dress with jeans—yes…skinny jeans!

After all the colour I’ve been wearing lately, I decided it was time to return to my ‘roots’ and go gothic again! It’s been a while, I know, but I was given a few gothic items for Christmas and I’ve yet to show you! Anyhoo, here is one of my favourites. It’s the most gorgeous black chiffon dress—a gift from my in-laws. Do you like it?

This particular dress has huge ruffles, which I would usually shy away from, but I rather like these. They certainly do make a statement, don’t they? It came with a little black camisole to wear beneath it, but I removed it and just wore a little vest top to preserve my modesty. As well as this black chiffon dress, my in-laws also bought me one in bright pink (a different style though). I haven’t worn it yet because it has short sleeves, but I’m sure it will make an appearance soon enough!

I thought about wearing tights, perhaps a colourful pair, but changed my mind and opted for skinny jeans instead. Why? Because I wanted to give the finger to anyone who keeps saying skinnies are dead! Purlease…If I wanna wear skinnies, I’m gonna wear the skinnies! However, if I did own a pair of wide-legged grey jeans, I might have given them a try too. I think they’d also look pretty good.

These grey skinny jeans are Levi’s, they’re high waisted so are very flattering (you can’t go wrong with high-waist jeans regardless of the style) and I simply adore them. I also like the fact that they’re not too long, either. It’s a problem I often face with jeans, having to hem them. Drives me nuts. These, though, sit perfectly at my ankles. Result!

I have the most gorgeous pair of heeled Doc Martens (very goth-looking) which I considered wearing, but decided on something a bit different instead. These high-top trainers are from Ecco, one of my favourite Danish brands. Michael and I actually own SO many pairs, it’s a bit ridiculous to be honest. But they’re so damn comfortable, we just can’t get enough of them. Plus, they’ve got the most fabulous outlet store not too far away and whenever we’re there, we just can’t resist! I’ve actually got this pair in purple too, only not in high-top. I love that they’re a bit pointy, rather witchy if you ask me!

As per my current preference for bumbags, I figured my little red bag would look the best. I bought it from Stradivarius a couple of years ago. It doesn’t get an awful lot of wear because the belt-like fastening bugs me. I prefer something that is easier to clip on and off! And that’s it, that’s me returning to my gothic-loving self in a black chiffon dress. I haven’t done it for a while, but it does feel good!

Lovely outfit. I love your dress. I’ve been trying some old dresses on that are now too short. I will have to try them with jeans to see how they look 🙂

Claire, don’t get rid of them! Wear them with your jeans, they’ll look fab that way!

I’m all for black gotic like dresses! Black always will be my favorite color. I still don’t receive your email, perhaps you can check your subscribe section?

In my eyes, you can’t go wrong with black gothic style dresses either, Nancy! I’m so glad we managed to sort out the problem with the emails!

I’m still wearing my skinnies, even though I don’t look perfect in them. they are just so nice and I love to wear long boots with them. You look super in your black dress Suzy. xx Jacqui x

  5. I think it is a fab dress and I love the juxtaposition the skinnies create. (I love the fact that I know what juxtaposition means haha.) Also loved the phrase “to preserve my modesty”.
Your in-laws must love you a lot as they gave you many presents.
I totally agree on your love for Ecco sneakers. I am wearing an old pair as I type this. So comfortable.
The bum bag is very modern and a beautiful colour but I would worry about pick-pockets walking behind me, pulling the zipper.

LOL again, your comments are always so wonderful, Greetje! I love the word juxtaposition too… I like to use when I’m getting dressed lol!!
I never wear the bumbags actually on my bum though, always in front where I can see where the zipper is LOL!!

  7. What a fab dress, Suzy! I love the witchy, gothy feel of it and it is so fun over your skinny jeans. I will keep wearing my skinnies as well. I don’t pay any attention to these so called fashion rules and trends! Haha. Very cute shoes, too!

  8. Oh I really love those sneakers! I have bought a few pair recently! My mom just got Eccos and they are comfy and offer lots of support plus they are stylish! I will continue to wear skinny jeans as well, the heck with those who say you cant! I love the ruffles on your dress. I decided when we get to travel, I want a “bum bag” as they would be great and hands free!

I wear sneakers pretty much every day, Jess! I just can’t get enough of them! And I cannot recommend bum bags enough. I love that you put “bum bag” in speech marks! I know they’re called ‘fanny packs’ in the US, but over here that usually makes us laugh because fanny has a very different meaning to us Brits LOL!!!

What a great idea to wear the bumbag that way! I love the earrings and should try jeans under some of my dresses: a fun twist: will have to see whichwould work.

Thanks Mireille! If I’m wearing a bumbag and need the loo, I’ll wear it across my chest instead – so it’s not pressing against my bladder!!! LOL!!
