What is it with all these super high waist mom jeans? link-up

OMG people…seriously, what is it with super high waist mom jeans? I went shopping yesterday with my bestie, Sarah. It was the first time we’d managed to get together in a while so we had a fabulous day. My mission for the day was to buy myself a couple of pairs of jeans. Do you think I could find what I was looking for??

After a few of hours, I was so freaking frustrated. This is what I wanted: mid-rise, loose fitting straight leg, wide leg or bootcut jeans. It’s not too much to ask for, is it? Every single shop I went into either had skinny jeans or these super high waist mom jeans which looked bloody ridiculous on me! I mean, we’re not all super slim sixteen-year-olds, are we?

Sarah was chuckling at me from outside the changing rooms because she could hear me, huffing and puffing and throwing each pair of jeans on the floor when I realised how awful they looked! I don’t think I’ve said so many swear words in a while lol. Mind you, I am quite hormonal at the moment!

In the end, I managed to find a pair in C&A. They’re not exactly what I wanted because, although they’re a lovely pair of jeans with a bootcut fit, they are tight around the thighs and bum. So, I’m still on a mission to find a looser fitting pair that sit nicely on the hips and not so high that they’re almost reaching my bust! If anyone knows where I might find such a pair, please let me know!

I do own quite a few pairs of jeans already, but the majority are skinny jeans (which I still love) and I’d really like to add a few more pairs of looser fitting styles to my collection (I’ve got a nice pair of loose-fit baggy jeans, a pair of wide-legged ones, a pair of white mid rise mom jeans and a slimmer pair in black). Plus, looser fit jeans are so much more comfortable at this age, right? Especially when you’re going into peri-menopause, with hot flushes, bloating and just general malaise (is that the right word?). What do you think? What style of jeans are you into at the moment?

Now let’s get on with the Neverending Style link-up! What have you been up to this week? Please add your posts so we can all have a good nosey! By the way, can you believe it’s October already??!!! Where has this year gone?!!

There were so many wonderful posts last week, that it was hard to choose a favourite (you’re ALL my favourites!) but I’m sharing Darlene’s post about her new cropped Argyle sweater, because she demonstrates how we can wear cropped sweaters and look fabulous at any age! Check out her post here. I love this outfit and I just might have to go out and buy the entire look!

I totally get where you’re coming from Suzy. I’ve just been talking about the same thing on YouTube. I tried hard to embrace the new trend mom style. I think I have four pairs now. They don’t flatter at all and I’ve thrown the towel in.
I’m sticking with what I know suits me best. Bootcut mid-rise. No more mom jeans for me. I don’t care if I’m not on trend xx

  2. Hahah I agree it’s definitely challenging to find jeans these days with the styles always changing. Although because of this I’m trying to branch out from my comfort zone and try new denim styles

  3. I haven’t even looked at jeans recently because I am over abundantly stocked with every style that I like. I am digging my loose fitting wide leg jeans, boyfriend jeans, and some slimmer cut, skinny jeans right now. But I cycle through all the styles depending on my mood. I am not very into the high waisted mom jean style though. I hope you find your perfect jeans soon, my friend!

This is the first year, I have bought several pairs of non skinny jeans: one or two thrifted and the others after seeing them on others: I am still one for high waisted jeans but usually just above belly button not super high waisted jeans. I have a hard time with mid rise and my muffin top (lol). I am liking the diversity!

I don’t mind the high waist as long as it’s not too high. But am not keen on the wide legged and flared jeans doing the rounds. They really don’t do anything for me. Good old M&S still a good port of call for jeans of all sorts xx

High rise jeans are the worst! I hated them back when I was a young woman and could wear them. They are never comfortable, because even if you’re skinny, when you sit down, they cut in. You mention that your new pair is a bit snug in the hips. Why do clothing designers continue to insist that women be shaped like little boys? Women have hips!

Glad you got to spend a great day with your friend!

I love mid-rise jeans, but I’m finding lately with weight gain, they aren’t are flattering as they are comfortable. Drives me crazy seeing my muffin top poofing out the sides so I’ve been more drawn to high rise as they hide all those secrets I’m trying to keep. The trouble I’m finding though is finding jeans with good compression. High rise doesn’t mean good quality, and that is tough because I also don’t want my belly hanging out within the jeans. It’s very frustrating.

Several of my friends have started thrifting men’s jeans for that very reason. I used to wear my husband’s jeans…. So very comfortable.

You are so sweet, Suzy. Thanks so much for sharing my photo. I can only imagine how hard it is to choose!! So I am super honored. Your new jeans are very flattering, Suzy–they look great on you! I personally look better in the mom jeans style, probably because they make my legs look a bit longer? Well, maybe. I do think you have to try jeans on cause you never really know what will look good, right? I can just picture you huffing in the dressing room! Lol! Thanks again,

    xx Darlene

  10. I was on the hunt for a slightly loser fit than skinny. As skinny isn’t doing it for me anymore. Unless I am wearing a long tunic or dress over them. In the end I found one but it grazes my ankle. Although quite flattering, I really wanted this one but with long legs…. the search will continue.

I’m in a real quandary with my jeans. I have skinnies that I no longer really like, boyfriend that look too big, mom jeans I don’t mind and straight legs that are okay. Need to find a style that looks right and fits me too! Thanks for sharing this post Suzy. Jacqui x

  12. Oh I sdidnt know you started a linkup! I will need to get on board. What day is it?
I wear skinnies still, and just bought a pair of Perfect Vintage jeans from Madewell, 2 pair a grey and a blue, and they both are high rise! I tend to prefer that as I have a long torso, but it isnt for everyone. I love the pairs you have here and I was glad to try something that felt like jeans more than jeggings. Love the red with the sandals and red top!
    thanks doe linking!
